Catholic University of LouvainJohannes den Heijer served as Professor of Arabic Studies at the Université catholique de Louvain until his retirement in 2020, where he established himself as a leading authority on Arabic historiography and Copto-Arabic literature. After earning his doctorate in Oriental Philology from Leiden University in 1989, he has made significant contributions to understanding medieval Arabic texts, particularly through his work on the History of the Patriarchs of Alexandria. As founder of the International Copto-Arabic Historiography Project (ICAHP) in 2009, he has advanced the study of Copto-Arabic texts through innovative methodological approaches
