Johann Thorsson holds a senior research scientist and project manager position at the Soil Conservation Service of Iceland's Research & Development department, following earlier work at the Agricultural Research Institute of Iceland from 1990-1999 where he focused on livestock grazing, feeding, and land use issues. After earning his B.Sc. in Biology from the University of Iceland in 1990, he went on to complete his Ph.D. in Rangeland Ecology at Texas A&M University in 2008. As a core teacher and studies committee member at the UN University Land Restoration Training Programme, he pursues research interests spanning land degradation processes, land use issues, management, and condition monitoring, while his diverse research portfolio includes projects ranging from ecosystem radionuclide transfer to participatory land reclamation approaches.
