Leading Expert in China's Clean Energy Policy and Climate Change

Georgetown UniversityJoanna Lewis serves as Associate Professor in the Science, Technology and International Affairs Program at Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service, where she has established herself as a leading authority on China's energy and environmental policies since 2008. After earning her PhD in Energy and Resources from UC Berkeley and BA in Environmental Science and Policy from Duke University, she has dedicated nearly two decades to researching China's clean energy development. Her award-winning book "Green Innovation in China" received the 2014 Harold and Margaret Sprout Award from the International Studies Association. As Lead Author for the IPCC's Fifth Assessment Report and faculty affiliate with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory's China Energy Group, she currently leads a National Science Foundation project on technological leapfrogging in China's clean energy sector. Her extensive experience includes work with the Pew Center on Global Climate Change, Asia Society, and White House Council on Environmental Quality, while also serving as a visiting scholar at Tsinghua University, the Wilson Center, and the East-West Center. She convenes Georgetown's U.S.-China Climate Research Dialogue and advises numerous organizations on energy and climate issues in China.
