Jill Slinger

Jill Slinger serves as Associate Professor at TU Delft's Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management and Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences, while holding a visiting professorship at Rhodes University, South Africa. Her academic credentials include a PhD in Applied Mathematics and MSc (cum laude) from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Her research combines environmental systems modeling with policy analysis, focusing on water and coastal management through stakeholder-inclusive approaches. She spearheads TU Delft's teaching on Building with Nature and leads the development of ecosystem-based design knowledge. Her expertise spans field-based studies of aquatic systems, mathematical modeling, and participatory engagement with communities and policymakers. Through her work on the Dutch advisory committee on coastal flooding safety and the National River Programming Committee, she continues to influence environmental policy development. Her current research focuses on co-designing innovative nature-based solutions, particularly in river and coastal systems, while promoting inclusive approaches to environmental planning and management.
