Dr. Jérôme Chenal is an accomplished urban planner specializing in urban planning and the restructuring of precarious neighborhoods. He currently serves as the General Secretary of the CEAT (Community of Studies for Land Use Planning) at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) and is involved in various development projects across Africa, including in Chad, Senegal, Mauritania, and Guinea. His dual role as a researcher and expert has led him to direct significant studies, such as the restructuring of the Kebbe d’El Mina neighborhood in Nouakchott, Mauritania, where he focused on planning water networks and distribution norms.Chenal holds a PhD with a thesis on city planning in West Africa, specifically studying Dakar and Abidjan, which provides him with a unique perspective on urban issues related to essential services like water, electricity, drainage, and waste management.
