Professor Jens Juul Holst is a distinguished Professor of Medical Physiology and the Deputy Head of the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen, where he also serves as Research Director at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research. His research primarily focuses on the regulatory peptides produced by the pancreas and gut, particularly their roles in gastrointestinal function and metabolism, with a keen interest in blood glucose and appetite regulation, obesity, and diabetes. Over the past two decades, his laboratory has consistently published 20 to 35 papers annually, contributing to his personal tally of over 1,000 publications. Professor Holst is a member of several prestigious academic organizations, including the Danish Academy for Natural Sciences and the Royal Danish Academy of Science and Letters, and has received numerous research awards throughout his career. He also holds editorial positions on the boards of several prominent journals, including Regulatory Peptides, Endocrinology, Diabetes, and the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism. With 30 years of experience, he is recognized as an exceptional teacher of endocrinology at the University of Copenhagen.
