École Polytechnique Fédérale de LausanneJean-Philippe Hogge is a Senior Scientist in the Gyrotron Development Group at École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). After receiving both his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in physics from EPFL, he completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at MIT before joining the Swiss Plasma Center (formerly CRPP). His expertise centers on developing high-power microwave sources for Electron Cyclotron Resonance Heating, a critical technology for plasma heating in fusion devices. He has made significant contributions to the development of advanced gyrotrons, including work on the European 170 GHz/1 MW continuous wave gyrotron for ITER and the dual-frequency gyrotron for the TCV tokamak. Through his research and development work, Hogge continues to advance the field of fusion technology, particularly in the area of high-power microwave systems essential for plasma heating and current drive in fusion reactors.
