Javier Lazo has established himself as a leading figure in contemporary Peruvian music, particularly known for his work in preserving and innovating Afro-Peruvian rhythms from Peru's southern Pacific coast. His composition "De los amores," performed by Susana Baca, has achieved international recognition through numerous versions and remixes. His achievements include a 2020 Latin Grammy nomination as music producer for "The Warrior Women of Afro Peruvian Music" project, alongside Matt Geraghty and Araceli Poma. He contributed to the Latin Grammy-nominated album "A Chabuca" (2017), collaborating with renowned artists like Rubén Blades, Jorge Drexler, and Ana Belén. His international collaborations span across world music and jazz, working with artists such as Pedro Aznar, Michael League, and Cyro Baptista. Beyond music, he has developed cultural tourism initiatives, creating experiential workshops on Peruvian music and dance for international visitors. His academic contributions include lectures at prestigious institutions like the Opéra Underground de Lyon, Casa de América in Madrid, and Berklee College of Music in Valencia.
