Distinguished Music Educator and Innovator in Theory Pedagogy
Dr. Jamie Henke is a Distinguished Teaching Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she has established herself as a pioneering force in music education and online learning. With a PhD from UW-Madison, she has earned numerous prestigious accolades including the Chancellor's Hilldale Teaching Award, the Alliant Energy Underkofler Excellence in Teaching Award, and the Bartell Award in the Arts. Her groundbreaking work includes publishing the first truly online music theory textbook, "Musical Palette: A Fundamentals Text," and co-founding MACRO, a music theory pedagogy organization. As a faculty associate in both the School of Music and Division of Continuing Studies, she teaches a diverse range of courses from counterpoint and composition to theory and history, utilizing both traditional and online instruction methods. Her innovative approach to education extends to various technology-driven projects, including podcasting and simulations with UW-Madison's Division of Information Technology. She serves as coordinator for Independent Learning in music and Online Continuing Education in music, while also directing the Literally Arts program for Odyssey Junior, which helps disadvantaged students engage with education through arts and literature. Her dedication to teaching excellence is further demonstrated through her role as a Teaching Fellow in the UW-Madison Teaching Academy and her work training graduate students in the Delta program.
