A geographer and urbanist, he has revolutionized the field through his comprehensive theory of social space and urbanity. As director of Chôros Laboratory and co-director of EspacesTemps.net, he pioneered innovative approaches to cartography and introduced audiovisual methods into academic research. His work spans epistemology of social sciences, spatial theory, urbanity, globalization, and European studies. In 2018, he received the prestigious Vautrin-Lud Prize, considered the highest international award in Geography. His achievements include developing four explanatory models of globalization, creating participatory mapping practices, and directing the scientific film "Urbanity/ies" (2013). Through hundreds of articles and numerous books, he has consistently bridged theoretical geography with practical urban planning, while advancing the use of non-verbal languages in academic research
