Delft University of TechnologyIrene Dedoussi serves as an Assistant Professor in the Aircraft Noise and Climate Effects section at TU Delft's Faculty of Aerospace Engineering. After completing her BA and MEng with distinction at Cambridge University, where her interest in aviation's environmental impact began through her work at the Whittle Laboratory, she earned her MS and PhD in Aeronautics and Astronautics from MIT. Her groundbreaking research focuses on understanding and quantifying the environmental impacts of combustion emissions from aviation and other industrial sectors. Her work has produced significant findings, including the first peer-reviewed assessment of health impacts from the Volkswagen emissions scandal in the United States, and research published in Nature revealing that about half of outdoor air pollution-related premature mortality from combustion emissions occurs outside the source state. Named in Forbes' 30 Under 30 Europe Science and Healthcare list, she leads a Veni project funded by the Dutch Research Council and participates in multiple EU-funded projects. Her interdisciplinary approach combines engineering principles with environmental science to address the complex challenges of sustainable aviation development.
