Distinguished Political Psychologist and Gender Studies Pioneer
Professor Inger Skjelsbæk serves as Professor at the University of Oslo and Research Professor at the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO), where she has established herself as a leading authority on gender, peace, and conflict studies. After earning her Ph.D. in social psychology from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, she has built an influential career examining the intersection of gender and conflict, particularly focusing on war-related sexual violence in the Balkans. Her groundbreaking work includes directing the Centre for Gender Studies at UiO (2021-2024) and serving as PRIO's Deputy Director (2009-2015). Her research impact is evidenced through seminal publications including "The Political Psychology of War Rape: Studies from Bosnia and Herzegovina" and co-editing "Gender Equality and Nation Branding in the Nordic Region." As leader of the EuroWARCHILD project and member of the Center for Research on Extremism's Leadership Group, she continues to shape international understanding of gender dynamics in conflict zones while maintaining influential positions in both academic and policy spheres
