Distinguished Esophageal Surgeon and Upper GI Surgery Expert
Dr. Ian Yu-Hong Wong serves as Clinical Assistant Professor in the Division of Esophageal and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery at The University of Hong Kong, where he has established himself as a leading expert in foregut surgery since graduating from HKU in 2007. After attaining fellowships from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the College of Surgeons of Hong Kong in 2014, he enhanced his expertise through specialized training under renowned mentors including Dr. John Pandolfino and Dr. Nathaniel Soper at Northwestern University, Dr. Marco Patti at the University of Chicago, and Professor Han-Kwang Yang at Seoul National University. His research focuses on esophageal and gastric cancer management, esophageal motility disorders, and gastroesophageal reflux disease, with particular emphasis on post-lung transplant GERD in collaboration with Grantham Hospital. As Secretary General of The International Society of Digestive Disease – Asian Pacific and committee member of multiple prestigious organizations including ISDE and A-PSDE, he contributes significantly to the field through his publications in high-impact journals, regular peer reviews, and international lectures, while maintaining active involvement in clinical practice and research at Queen Mary Hospital
