Wageningen University & ResearchHarrie Lovenstein serves as an expert in sustainable agriculture and distance learning at Wageningen University's Centre for Sustainable Development and Food Security. After completing his MSc in Tropical Crop Science from Wageningen University (1978-1984), he has specialized in arid land agriculture with particular focus on water-efficient farming techniques. His expertise spans runoff farming, agroforestry systems, and tree propagation techniques, all aimed at maximizing crop yield per unit of water ("more crop per drop"). Currently serving as Head of R&D at Land Life Company, he applies his expertise to dryland forestry research and development. Through his involvement in distance learning projects at Wageningen University, including MOOCs on sustainable food security, he continues to share knowledge about sustainable agricultural practices and food systems. His work particularly emphasizes practical solutions for agriculture in water-scarce environments, demonstrated through his contributions to runoff agroforestry research and sustainable development education.
