Dr. Haiyi Zhu is the Daniel P. Siewiorek Assistant Professor of Human-Computer Interaction at Carnegie Mellon University. She earned her B.S. in Computer Science from Tsinghua University and both her M.S. and Ph.D. in Human-Computer Interaction from Carnegie Mellon. Dr. Zhu has received multiple National Science Foundation (NSF) awards, several prestigious paper awards from conferences such as CHI, CSCW, and Human Factors, and the Allen Newell Award for Research Excellence. Her research integrates social science theory with quantitative methods and computational techniques, including machine learning and statistics, to explore the dynamics of large-scale online social systems.Dr. Zhu's work focuses on understanding peer production communities like Wikipedia and StackOverflow, social networking platforms such as Facebook, massive open online courses (MOOCs) like Coursera, and sharing economy systems including Uber, Airbnb, and Couchsurfing. She teaches several courses related to user experience design, including Evaluating User Interfaces, Introduction to UI Design, Prototyping and Design, and User Research and Design.
