Gerben Moerman

Gerben Moerman is a distinguished sociologist at the University of Amsterdam, specializing in social-scientific research methods with particular expertise in mixed methods and qualitative research. After earning his MSc in sociology of non-western societies from Leiden University, he completed his PhD on "Probing Behaviour in Open Interviews" at Vrije Universiteit in 2010. His contributions to academia include expertise in Grounded Theory, Discourse Analysis, and Ethnomethodology. Recognition of his teaching excellence came with the 'Lecturer of the Year 2011' award at the University of Amsterdam, and he served as chair of the European Sociological Association Research Network 20 on Qualitative Methods from 2015-2017, demonstrating his significant impact on the field of sociological research methodology.
