Professor Wan has had a distinguished career in applied mathematics and engineering mechanics, contributing significantly to fields such as resource economics, neurosciences, viral dynamics, and developmental and cell biology. He has served on the editorial boards of several prestigious journals, including the Journal of Applied Mechanics and the International Journal of Solids and Structures. Elected as a Fellow of the American Academy of Mechanics in 1982 and a Life Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers in 1988, his accolades include being named a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 1994 and a Foreign Member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences in 1999.
