Frans Claas

Dr. Frans Claas is a Professor of Immunogenetics of Transplantation at Universiteit Leiden and the director of the Eurotransplant Reference Laboratory. His research focuses on the differential immunogenicity of HLA mismatches in clinical transplantation and the immunology of pregnancy as a model for transplantation tolerance. Dr. Claas initiated a special program within Eurotransplant aimed at enhancing the transplantation of highly sensitized renal transplant patients based on acceptable HLA mismatches. He also serves as the editor-in-chief of Transplant Immunology. Dr. Claas teaches the course Clinical Kidney, Pancreas and Islet Transplantation, where he shares his expertise in transplant medicine and immunogenetics with students and professionals in the field.
