Frank Schultmann

Frank Schultmann serves as Professor of Complex Project Management and Director of Project Management at the University of Adelaide while simultaneously holding a Chair Professorship at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), where he directs both the Institute for Industrial Production (IIP) and the French-German Institute for Environmental Research (DFIU). After completing his education at the University of Karlsruhe with a Diplom in Industrial Engineering (1993), PhD (1998), and Habilitation (2003), he built an impressive academic career through positions at the University of Koblenz-Landau and the University of Siegen before assuming his current roles. His research spans multiple disciplines, including sustainable production, supply chain optimization, project management, and construction management, with significant contributions evidenced by highly-cited publications in areas such as building information modeling, biomass-to-liquid production, and renewable energy systems. As an educator, he leads the development of project management curriculum at Adelaide, including the successful Introduction to Project Management MOOC, while maintaining extensive industry collaborations across sectors including automotive, chemical, construction, and logistics. His work has earned him recognition as a leading authority in complex project management and sustainable operations, with particular expertise in decision support systems and technology assessment.
