KU LeuvenFlorence Benoît-Rohmer, born on September 20, 1952, in Strasbourg, is a prominent French jurist and professor emeritus at the Law Faculty in Strasbourg. Her distinguished career includes serving as Dean of the law faculty from 2000 to 2003 and as President of the Université Robert Schuman from 2003 to 2008. She held the position of Secretary General of the European Inter-University Centre for Human Rights and Democratisation from 2009 to 2015, where she oversaw an interdisciplinary center comprising 41 universities from all European Union member states. Her expertise spans European values, the European Charter of Fundamental Rights, the European Convention on Human Rights, and national minority rights. Throughout her career, she has served as a human rights expert for the Council of Europe and EU, presided over the Scientific Committee of the Fundamental Rights Agency of the EU, and contributed extensively to leading academic journals in human rights law. Her influence extends beyond France, as she teaches at numerous universities across Bulgaria, Germany, and China, while also maintaining membership in scientific committees of several international journals specialized in human rights.
