Economic Policy and Development Expert
Felipe Larraín has established himself as one of Latin America's most distinguished economists and public servants, serving twice as Chile's Finance Minister (2010-2014 and 2018-2019) with remarkable success that earned him recognition as "Best Finance Minister of Latin America" and "Best Finance Minister of the Americas." His academic credentials include a PhD and MA in Economics from Harvard University and a BA from Universidad Católica de Chile, where he currently serves as Professor of Economics. His influence extends beyond Chile through his role as economic advisor to numerous governments across Latin America, including Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, and Mexico, while also serving as a consultant to major international organizations such as the World Bank, IMF, and Inter-American Development Bank. His scholarly contributions include authoring 15 books and over 140 articles, with his co-authored textbook "Macroeconomics in the Global Economy" with Jeffrey Sachs being translated into ten languages. As Director of the Latin American Center of Economic and Social Policies (CLAPES UC) from 2014 to 2018, he has shaped economic policy discussions across the region. His expertise spans economic growth, fiscal policy, sustainable development, and climate change, demonstrated by his leadership in issuing the Americas' first sovereign green bond and founding the Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action in 2019. He currently serves on the UN Leadership Council for Sustainable Development and the Lancet Commission for COVID-19, continuing to influence global economic and development policy
