Trinity CollegeProfessor Eric Galm has established himself as a leading authority in Brazilian music and ethnomusicology at Trinity College, where he serves as Professor of Music, Chair of the Music Department, and Co-Director of the Center for Caribbean Studies. His most significant contribution has been founding and directing the Trinity Samba Fest, an annual Brazilian music festival that has grown from 300 to 4,000 attendees and received the Society for Ethnomusicology's 2024 Judith McCulloh Public Sector Award. His academic credentials include a PhD from Wesleyan University, an MA from Tufts University, a performance degree from the University of Michigan, and certificates from prestigious Brazilian institutions. As founder of the Trinity Samba Ensemble and producer of Samba Fest, he has facilitated US debut performances for numerous Brazilian artists and engaged with over 70,000 people through live events and broadcasts. His expertise in Brazilian music and culture has earned him notable recognition, including an honorary citizenship from Itabira, Brazil. Beyond his academic work, Galm has performed with American icon Pete Seeger and recorded various albums ranging from Renaissance music to Brazilian Jazz, while maintaining an active role in promoting cross-cultural understanding through music education and performance.
