SDG AcademyEmma Torres serves as a Senior Advisor on Sustainability at the United Nations Development Programme's Regional Bureau for Latin America and the Caribbean, bringing over two decades of UN experience to her role. Her expertise spans biodiversity conservation, climate change, and sustainable development. As UNDP's Deputy Executive Coordinator for the Global Environment Facility partnership between UNDP, UNEP, and the World Bank, she has played a crucial role in environmental initiatives across Latin America. She currently serves on the Independent Advisory Group on Sustainability for the Inter-American Development Bank and chairs the Standing Advisory Group on Technical Assistance and Cooperation for the International Atomic Energy Agency. Her academic background includes a master's degree in Economics from Universidad Complutense de Madrid and specialized training in Environmental Economics and Climate Change from IIED – Harvard University. As a Leadership Council member of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network, she co-chairs SDSN Amazonia and leads the Rio: A Sustainable City initiative. Her significant contributions include coordinating landmark reports such as "Latin America and the Caribbean: A Biodiversity SuperPower," "Our Own Agenda," and "Amazonia without Myths," establishing her as a leading voice in regional sustainable development.
