Pioneer in Autonomous Systems and Robotics Education
Emilio Frazzoli is a Professor of Dynamic Systems and Control at ETH Zurich, with extensive expertise in robotics, autonomous systems, and intelligent mobility. He received a Laurea degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Rome "Sapienza" and a Ph.D. from MIT. Before joining ETH Zurich, he held faculty positions at MIT, the University of Illinois, and UC Los Angeles1. As an entrepreneur, he founded nuTonomy in 2013, which evolved through Aptiv to become Motional, where he served as Chief Scientist until March 2021. His research has garnered significant recognition, including the 2015 IEEE George S. Axelby Award, the 2017 IEEE Kiyo Tomiyasu Award, and IEEE Fellow status in 2019. His research group achieved a notable milestone by conducting the first public demonstration of an autonomous mobility service. Currently at ETH Zurich, he chairs the Center for Sustainable Future Mobility, focusing on planning and control of mobile robotic systems, with particular emphasis on autonomous vehicles and transportation networks.
