Dr. Emilie Venables is a Senior Operational Researcher at the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)’s Centre for Operational Research and Experience (CORE), specializing in social anthropology with nearly 20 years of experience in humanitarian contexts. Her research expertise encompasses migration, sexual violence, and health issues related to Ebola and HIV/AIDS, having worked in various countries including South Africa, Kenya, Liberia, and Lebanon. Since joining the ICRC in 2019, she has conducted significant research on sexual violence in South Sudan and the Central African Republic. Dr. Venables holds a BA in Social Anthropology from the University of Cambridge, an MSc in Development Studies from SOAS, and an MSc and PhD in African Studies from the University of Edinburgh. She is also an Honorary Research Associate at the University of Cape Town and teaches on topics such as "Operational Research for Humanitarians" and "Addressing Sexual Violence in Conflict and Emergency Settings."
