A seasoned environmental economist with 15 years of expertise, Dr. Grafakos serves as a scientific advisor and researcher at the Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies (IHS), specializing in urban sustainability and climate change responses in urban environments. Their research portfolio encompasses urban sustainability assessment, environmental decision-making and analysis, environmental economics, ecosystems valuation, and urban low carbon and climate resilient development planning. They have led numerous advisory, research, and capacity-building projects for major international organizations including the European Commission, UN-HABITAT, The World Bank, Inter-American Development Bank, United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF), and the Dutch government, while also coordinating Urban Climate Change education initiatives at IHS, including both the Urban Climate Change Management specialization within the Urban Management and Development Master's programme and various short postgraduate courses.
