Dr. Sounak Thakur

Dr. Sounak Thakur is an applied microeconomist whose research explores family dynamics and decision-making in developing countries. Currently an Assistant Professor at IIM Calcutta, on long leave from IIT Kanpur, his work focuses on intra-household behavior, fertility choices, and human capital formation, with broader interests in the demographic consequences of technological change and the role of migration costs in limiting productivity. Employing both calibration techniques and reduced-form econometric methods for causal inference, he seeks to deepen the understanding of how household decisions and migration dynamics influence long-term development outcomes.
