After earning degrees in Modern Languages and Literatures, English Studies, and a PhD in Translation Studies focusing on subtitling for the deaf and hard-of-hearing, she transformed from a language teacher into a leading authority in audiovisual translation and accessibility. Her groundbreaking work spans television, cinema, museums, performing arts, and education, developing innovative approaches to make communication accessible to all. She has earned prestigious recognition including the Gerhard Weiler Award for innovative research in social inclusion and the Engº Jaime Fernandes Award for her vKv Subtitling System. In Qatar, she collaborates with major institutions including the Doha Film Institute and Qatar Museums while maintaining strong connections with European universities as a visiting professor and researcher. As a member of the TransMedia Research Group and European Association for Studies in Screen Translation, she continues to advance multisensory communication strategies and accessible design across various platforms, from museums to digital media. Her action research methodology combines academic rigor with practical applications, making her a world-class expert in multimodal communication and accessibility solutions.
