Dr. Andrew Gardiner holds a BVM&S, Cert SAS, MSc, and PhD, and specializes in the history and sociology of human-animal relations as well as the development of veterinary medicine as a discipline. He teaches in the Edinburgh BVM&S program at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies (R(D)SVS). Before entering academia, Dr. Gardiner practiced in small animal veterinary medicine for 14 years, focusing on small animal surgery. His research interests encompass veterinary education, particularly in areas such as assessment, feedback, and the integration of digital resources to enhance learning. Dr. Gardiner is also involved in the course EDIVET: Do you have what it takes to be a veterinarian?, which helps prospective veterinarians evaluate their readiness for a career in veterinary medicine. His interdisciplinary approach combines practical veterinary experience with academic inquiry, contributing significantly to the field of veterinary education.
