She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and has a diverse background, having worked in both the public and private sectors, including a tenure at IBM UK. Before joining Royal Holloway, she served as an Associate Professor of Human Resource Management at Zayed University in Abu Dhabi. Dr. El-Sawad specializes in innovative approaches to business education, particularly through the integration of theatre, music, and the creative arts. She developed a free online course titled Explore Management Concepts Through Metaphor and Music on Coursera and has designed undergraduate modules such as Management, Music and Creativity. Recognized for her contributions to curriculum design, she received the Royal Holloway 2022 Teaching Excellence Prize for her project Management and Music, which emphasizes creative arts in education. Additionally, Dr. El-Sawad is an emerging composer and playwright, actively engaging in creative projects that bridge arts and management education.
