Inclusive Education Leader and Professional Development Expert

Boston UniversityDonald Gillian-Daniel serves as Assistant Director and Research Scientist in the Wei LAB and Director of Professional Development for the Office of Inclusion, Equity & Diversity in Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His work focuses on developing inclusive teaching practices and professional development programs in higher education. For over 15 years, he has created and taught face-to-face and synchronous online graduate courses through the Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching and Learning (CIRTL) Network. He co-leads the National Science Foundation's INCLUDES Aspire Alliance's National Change Team, where he develops resources for inclusive teaching, research mentoring, and faculty advising. His innovative approach includes using applied improvisation to help faculty practice real-time responses to classroom situations. His international reach extends to conducting inclusive teaching sessions at Nazarbayev University in Kazakhstan and addressing implicit bias in college classrooms for NSF-funded initiatives. As co-PI of the NSF-funded Inclusive STEM Teaching Project, he continues to advance inclusive professional practices in both higher education and STEM disciplinary societies.
