David Sontag

David Sontag serves as Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at MIT, where he leads groundbreaking research at the intersection of machine learning and healthcare since joining the faculty in 2017. After earning his BA from UC Berkeley and PhD from MIT, where he received the Sprowls award for outstanding doctoral thesis, he established himself as a leader in healthcare AI through positions at NYU's Courant Institute and Microsoft Research. His research group at MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) and Institute for Medical Engineering and Science (IMES) focuses on transforming healthcare through machine learning applications, from disease progression modeling to precision medicine. His contributions have earned numerous honors including best paper awards at major conferences, faculty awards from Google, Facebook, and Adobe, and an NSF CAREER Award. Through his leadership of the Clinical Machine Learning Group and work on electronic health records analysis, he continues to advance both fundamental AI research and its practical applications in healthcare
