Distinguished Environmental Scientist and Coastal Ecosystem Expert
Dr. David Neil served as Associate Professor in Geography and Environmental Science at The University of Queensland, where he established himself as a leading authority on coastal processes and coral reef management. His academic career combined extensive field research with innovative teaching approaches, particularly in developing student field research teams and leading environmental assessment projects. His expertise spans coastal geomorphology, coral reef ecology, and marine resource management, while his international experience has contributed valuable insights into cross-cultural approaches to teamwork and environmental education. Through his collaboration with Professor Lydia Kavanagh on team-based learning initiatives and his contributions to higher education reform, he has helped shape UQ's approach to field-based environmental education. Currently working abroad, he continues to provide valuable observations on cultural differences in team dynamics and environmental management practices, while maintaining research connections with Australian coastal and marine conservation projects.
