Dr. Hik's research interests focus on the ecology and ecosystem dynamics of mountain and cold-region environments, the impacts of climate change, and the determinants of social-ecological resilience. Over the past 30 years, he has concentrated on mountainous regions in the Yukon Territory, Canada, while also exploring other global locations. He completed his BSc at Queen’s University, an MSc at the University of Toronto, and a PhD at the University of British Columbia. Following his doctoral studies, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization in Canberra, Australia. Dr. Hik has previously held notable positions such as Canada Research Chair in Northern Ecology, Executive Director of the Canadian International Polar Year Secretariat, and President of the International Arctic Science Committee. He has received several prestigious awards, including the Martin Bergmann Medal for Excellence in Arctic Leadership and Science, the Erebus Medal, and the Gold Medal from the Royal Canadian Geographical Society, as well as the Polar Medal from the Government of Canada.
