David M. Williams, Ph.D., has transformed organizational quality improvement across multiple sectors through his pioneering work at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI). After beginning his career as a paramedic and earning degrees in EMS Management (BS), Emergency Health Services Management (MS from UMBC), and Organizational Systems (Ph.D. from Saybrook University), he has built an extraordinary career spanning healthcare, education, and public safety. As Senior Improvement Advisor at IHI, he developed the Chief Quality Officer Professional Development Program while leading global initiatives in improvement science. His expertise extends from his early work as Quality Commander for Austin's EMS system to international consulting with organizations like Qatar's Hamad Medical Corporation. Author of "Quality as an Organizational Strategy: Building a System of Improvement," he continues to shape quality improvement methodology through his faculty roles at IHI Open School and Harvard's online courses. His leadership includes serving as Vice Chairman for CommUnityCare and advising organizations worldwide on adopting quality as a comprehensive organizational strategy.
