Arizona State UniversityDan Gillmor serves as Professor of Practice at Arizona State University's Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, where he co-founded and directs the News Co/Lab, focusing on improving the information ecosystem and counteracting misinformation. His 25-year career in journalism includes significant work at various newspapers, notably as a technology columnist at the San Jose Mercury News from 1994-2005. His influential books "We the Media" (2004) and "Mediactive" (2010) have been translated into multiple languages and have shaped understanding of citizen journalism and digital media literacy. Before joining ASU in 2008, he held positions at Harvard's Berkman Center for Internet & Society, UC Berkeley's Graduate School of Journalism, and founded Grassroots Media Inc. At ASU, he teaches Digital Media Literacy courses and helped develop the Cronkite School's BA in Digital Media Literacy program. His academic work includes leading ASU's first MOOC in digital media literacy and publishing in journals such as Journalism Practice. Beyond academia, he has co-founded and invested in various digital startups and continues to contribute to publications while speaking at conferences worldwide about media developments in the Digital Age.
