IIM BangaloreA. Damodaran served as Professor of Economics and Social Sciences at IIM Bangalore from 2005 to January 2023, where he held the MHRD Chair Professorship on Intellectual Property Rights. After earning his PhD and master's degrees from the University of Kerala, he established himself as a leading voice in environmental economics and global commons management. His career includes visiting positions at UC Berkeley, University of Bonn, and United Nations University-IAS Japan. Through his roles chairing the Technical Advisory Committee for UNDP's BIOFIN project and serving on UN biodiversity panels, he has shaped international environmental policy. His research spans environmental financing, cultural economics, and distributed network technologies, resulting in influential books including "Encircling the Seamless: India, Climate Change and the Global Commons" (2010) and "Managing Arts in Times of Pandemics and Beyond" (2022). His contributions earned him the Dewang Mehta National Best Teacher Award in Economics in 2016, while his advisory work with organizations including WIPO, World Bank, and Asian Development Bank continues to influence global environmental and technology policy.
