Columbia UniversityCostis Maglaras currently serves as the 16th Dean and David and Lyn Silfen Professor of Business at Columbia Business School. After receiving his BS in Electrical Engineering from Imperial College London and his MS and PhD from Stanford University, he joined Columbia Business School in 1998. His research spans stochastic modeling, financial engineering, and algorithmic pricing, with recent focus on market microstructure, social network information diffusion, and strategic queueing networks. Beyond academia, he founded Mismi Inc. in 2007, a fintech firm specializing in quantitative trading algorithms. His academic excellence has been recognized through multiple teaching awards at Columbia, including the Dean's Award for Teaching Excellence in Managerial Statistics and the Dean's Award for Teaching Innovation. As Dean since July 2019, he has led major initiatives in digital transformation, climate change education, and entrepreneurship, while overseeing the construction of a new 500,000 sq.ft. campus. He is a Fellow of INFORMS, an Honorary Fellow of the Foreign Policy Association, and has significantly influenced both academic research and industry practice through his work in financial technology and quantitative trading systems.
