Distinguished Neuroscientist and Educational Leadership Expert

University of AdelaideProfessor Corinna Van Den Heuvel serves as Head of the School of Biomedicine at the University of Adelaide, bringing over 30 years of expertise in neuroscience and education. After completing her PhD on amyloid precursor protein in traumatic brain injury at Adelaide in 1999, she immediately joined the Department of Pathology as a lecturer. Her research in the Translational Neuropathology Laboratory focuses on traumatic brain injury, neurodegeneration, and forensic pathology, attracting over $1.6 million in research funding. As Program Coordinator for the Bachelor of Health and Medical Sciences, she has earned numerous teaching accolades including the Executive Dean's Medal and the Stephen Cole the Elder Award for Excellence in Leadership. Her contributions to education earned her appointment as a Senior Fellow of Advance HE in 2018 and membership in the Adelaide Education Academy. Her research has significantly advanced understanding of brain injury mechanisms and neurodegenerative disorders, with her work widely published in international journals. Beyond academia, she maintains successful research collaborations with Forensic Science SA and the Centre of Automotive Safety Research while mentoring numerous PhD and Honours students who have gone on to successful careers nationally and internationally.
