Christine Helmer (Ph.D. Yale) is a Professor of Religious Studies at Northwestern University, where she also holds a courtesy appointment in the Department of German and is the Arthur E. Andersen Teaching and Research Professor. Her research and teaching focus on Christian theology from historical, systematic, and constructive perspectives, with a particular emphasis on German intellectual history. She is especially interested in the theology of Martin Luther and the philosophy of Friedrich Schleiermacher, as well as the scholarship surrounding Luther and religion in early twentieth-century Germany, known as the Lutherrenaissance. Additionally, Helmer explores how theologians can articulate knowledge claims about God and how theological perspectives can enrich the humanities and social sciences.
