Leading French Geomorphologist Champions Landscape Heritage Conservation
Dr. Christian Giusti serves as Professor of Physical Geography at Sorbonne Université and researcher at the Espaces, Nature & Culture laboratory (ENeC, UMR 8185 CNRS), where he specializes in environmental geography and geomorphology. His research bridges the humanities and geosciences, focusing on the history and epistemology of geomorphology within geography, with particular emphasis on landscape relief features. His recent work has pioneered the concept of "geomorphosites" - remarkable landform sites that merit preservation as scientific and cultural heritage. Through his research and teaching, including the development of MOOCs, Giusti examines human-environment interactions across multiple scales, from local prehistoric landscapes to global anthropocene changes. His work on geomorphological heritage has contributed significantly to the recognition and preservation of scientifically and culturally valuable landforms, establishing frameworks for their identification and protection within the broader context of environmental conservation.
