Delft University of TechnologyCees Haringa serves as an Assistant Professor at TU Delft's Biotechnology Department, bringing extensive expertise in chemical engineering and industrial bioprocesses. After completing his BSc and MSc in Chemical Engineering at TU Delft, he earned his PhD with honors studying hydrodynamics and metabolic dynamics in industrial fermentors, a project that earned him the DECHEMA Industrial Bioprocess Award 2018. His professional journey includes three and a half years as an industrial scientist at DSM before joining TU Delft in 2021. His teaching portfolio encompasses basic thermodynamics and programming in the BSc Life Science and Technology program, modeling and computation in the MSc program, and specialized courses in industrial bioprocessing. He co-teaches Artificial Intelligence in (Bio)-Chemical Engineering, Computational Practicum, and Product & Process Design, while also supervising research projects for bachelor students in the Molecular Science and Technology program. His research focuses on fermentation processes from the microbial perspective, particularly investigating how organisms respond to conditions in large-scale fermentors. Originally from Terschelling, Netherlands, he maintains a strong passion for creating sustainable process industries and emphasizes the connection between research topics and education, particularly in implementing sustainability principles in engineering education.
