Delft University of TechnologyCarmine Varriale serves as an Assistant Professor at TU Delft's Flight Performance and Propulsion group, where he specializes in flight mechanics modeling and simulation of novel aircraft configurations. After graduating with honors from the University of Naples "Federico II" in 2017 and completing an internship at the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy Systems in Germany, he earned his PhD from TU Delft in 2022. His research focuses on investigating flying qualities and performance of innovative aircraft with redundant and interacting control effectors, particularly those featuring distributed and tiltable propellers. He has developed original approaches in Control Allocation and currently teaches a second-year BSc course on Flight Mechanics while serving as the lead instructor for TU Delft's MOOC on Sustainable Aviation. His passion for flight mechanics and simulation, which began during his early university years, continues to drive his academic career as he supervises PhD candidates and MSc students in their thesis projects. His work contributes to advancing understanding of novel aircraft configurations and their control systems, supporting the development of more efficient and sustainable aviation technologies.
