Georgetown UniversityBruce Hoffman serves as Professor at Georgetown University's Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service, where he directs both the Center for Security Studies and Security Studies Program, bringing over four decades of expertise in terrorism and insurgency studies. After establishing himself at RAND Corporation as Corporate Chair in Counterterrorism and Counterinsurgency and Director of their Washington Office, he has held numerous prestigious advisory positions including Scholar-in-Residence for Counterterrorism at the CIA and commissioner on the 9/11 Review Commission. His government service includes advising the Coalition Provisional Authority and Multi-National Forces in Iraq, while maintaining academic connections as visiting Professor of Terrorism Studies at St Andrews University, Scotland. His scholarly impact is evidenced through influential publications including "Inside Terrorism" (3rd edition, 2017), "The Evolution of the Global Terrorist Threat" (2014), and "Anonymous Soldiers" (2015), which won The Washington Institute's Book Prize. Currently, he serves as a visiting senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations and senior fellow at the U.S. Military Academy's Combating Terrorism Center, while continuing to shape counterterrorism policy and research through his academic and advisory roles.
