Bill Adair is the Knight Professor of the Practice of Journalism and Public Policy and the Director of the DeWitt Wallace Center for Media and Democracy. As one of 25 Knight Chairs at universities across the country, his work focuses on fact-checking and innovative journalism. He is the founder of PolitiFact, the Pulitzer Prize-winning fact-checking website, and is regarded as a leader in both new media and accountability journalism. Adair spent 24 years as a reporter and editor at the Tampa Bay Times (formerly the St. Petersburg Times), where he served as Washington Bureau Chief from 2004 to 2013. He launched PolitiFact in 2007, growing it into the largest fact-checking project in history, with affiliates in 11 states, and led its international expansion in 2013 with the creation of PolitiFact Australia.
