Betty Chandy

Betty Chandy serves as the Director of Online Learning for Catalyst at Penn GSE, where she leads innovative educational technology initiatives and professional development programs. After earning both her M.S.Ed and Ed.D. from the University of Pennsylvania's Graduate School of Education, she has established herself as a leader in online learning and educational technology integration. She currently directs the Virtual Online Teaching (VOLT) and Experiences in Applied Computational Thinking (EXACT) certificate programs at Penn GSE. Her career began as a high school teacher and instructional coach before transitioning to research on professional development's impact on teaching practices. Her expertise spans the design of learning environments, online education, classroom technology integration, and teacher development. She has made significant contributions to international education through her work adapting the VOLT program for organizations like the Aditya Birla Education Academy in India, where her innovations helped transform teaching practices. As an expert in AI integration in education, she advocates for using technology to enhance rather than replace traditional teaching methods, emphasizing that education is about acquiring knowledge, skills, values, beliefs, and habits rather than just finding correct answers.
