Peshkin serves as Professor of Oncology and Senior Genetic Counselor at Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, while also directing education for the Jess and Mildred Fisher Center for Familial Cancer Research. After earning her MS in Medical Genetics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and certification from the American Board of Genetic Counseling, complemented by a Certificate in Bioethics and Health Policy from Loyola School of Medicine, she has established herself as a leader in cancer genetic counseling. Her research focuses on genetic counseling and testing for inherited breast/ovarian cancer susceptibility, particularly investigating outcomes in newly diagnosed cancer patients and pioneering telephone genetic counseling methods. Her innovative work includes developing and evaluating internet-based tools to enhance genetic counseling accessibility and effectiveness. As one of few genetic counselors nationwide to achieve full professor status, she combines clinical practice with research and education, contributing significantly to advancing the field of cancer genetic counseling while training the next generation of genetic counseling professionals.
