Georgetown UniversityDr. Bernhard Liese serves as Chair of the Department of International Health at Georgetown University's School of Nursing and Health Studies, where he also directs the Master of Science in Global Health Program. His distinguished career spans over three decades in health and development, with significant contributions at the World Bank where he served in multiple leadership roles including director of the health services department, senior advisor for human development, and principal tropical-disease specialist. His expertise in global health was further demonstrated during his tenure as senior advisor for HIV/AIDS in UNDP's Global Health Program. Before his international development career, Dr. Liese gained valuable field experience as a health project manager and director of a nursing and midwifery school in Cameroon, followed by leading the Health Policy Desk in Germany's Federal Ministry of Health. His academic credentials include an M.D. and DSc from the University of Bonn and an MPH from Harvard School of Public Health. As a member of prestigious organizations including the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene and the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, Dr. Liese continues to shape global health policy and education through his expertise in governance, global health partnerships, and neglected tropical diseases.
