Pioneer in Open Data and Spatial Information Infrastructure

Delft University of TechnologyBastiaan van Loenen serves as Associate Professor at TU Delft's Faculty of Architecture and The Built Environment, where he chairs the Knowledge Center Open Data. His academic credentials include a PhD from TU Delft and MSc degrees from both The University of Maine (Spatial Information Science and Engineering) and TU Delft (Geodetic Engineering). His research focuses on open data, particularly the re-use of public sector geo-information, spatial data infrastructures, and legal aspects of geographic information. He chairs the Geo-information Infrastructure Committee of the Dutch Geodetic Commission and previously led the legal and socio-economic committee of the Global Spatial Data Infrastructure Association (2011-2015). His expertise has influenced European policy through participation in projects like INSPIRE and advising various countries on implementation. His achievements were recognized with the J.M. Tienstra award (2010) for most talented geo-scientist in the Netherlands. Currently, he leads projects including the H2020 ODECO and TODO initiatives while directing the MSc Geomatics program at TU Delft.
