Barbara Broers, a graduate of the Medical Faculty at the University of Amsterdam, boasts over 30 years of expertise in addiction medicine, HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, and harm reduction projects, primarily in Switzerland. She has served as a physician, public health specialist, and advocate, significantly impacting the field. Since 2008, Barbara has been a member of the Swiss Federal Commission for Addiction-related Questions, becoming vice-president in 2012. She has held the position of vice-president of the Swiss Society of Addiction Medicine since 2001 and is a founding member of the Swiss Taskforce for Cannabinoids in Medicine. Additionally, she has been part of the steering committee for Geneva’s safe drug use facility since 2001. Currently, Barbara is responsible for an outpatient consultation service for individuals with substance use disorders at Geneva University Hospitals and actively trains medical students and family doctors in this critical area.
